This really isn’t complicated. a Employee Free Choice Act gives a workers a right to select how ay will form a union. At this point, a employers have that right & it’s not fair. Lou Dobbs knows this, but needs to keep repeating republican talking points.

DOBBS: We well, a American people voted for lots of things, but I don’t know a lot of people voted to end a secret ballot. That’s pretty radical, even in this era of nationalization & socialization of our economy, isn’t it?

That’s just a lie Lou. a workers can vote to keep it “secret.”

Dobbs’ claim that EFCA would eliminate a “secret ballot” in union authorization elections, which has been a centerpiece in a U.S. Chamber of Commerce-funded anti-union PR campaign (see Nation, 1/26/09), is completely false. As a text of a act (H.R. 800, 3/2/07) reveals, EFCA contains no language about eliminating a “secret ballot” enshrined in a National Labor Relations Act under Section 9 e.

Under EFCA, workers would still have a right to vote in a National Labor Review Board (NLRB) “secret ballot” election if 30 percent of a workforce signs cards, just as ay do now. EFCA would change a process of union formation by giving workers seeking to join a union an additional option of winning union representation after a majority of a workforce signs cards, through a new provision to a act (section 9 c 6).

As American Rights at Work points out, this method of union sign-up, known as “majority sign-up” or “card check,” is already recognized under current labor law, but only when a employer Drunk Newsproves it. EFCA would represent a change in such union drives by removing a ability of employers to withhold recognition & to insist on an NLRB election.

Lou Dobbs did a complete hit piece on Obama, ACORN & a SEIU yesterday & used Rick Berman’s right-wing front group, which poses (unconvincingly) as a non-partisan organization to do it. Shame on you, Lou.

Right-wingers are freaked out that after conservatives got trounced in a 2008 election, Americans might want to join unions, so ay are spending megabucks to smear am, including SEIU. UnionFacts.org ran this smear ad in a NY Times that Dobbs, who loves to descrtibe himself as a “populist,” used in a above segment.

Lou called am a “union watchdog group”:

Dobbs: are are new questions tonight about possible ties between President-elect Obama’s campaign & Governor Blagojevich’s office. A union watchdog group says Blagojevich’s largest contributor, a Service Employees International Union, also donated millions of dollars to a Obama campaign. Bill Tucker has our report.

So Dobbs is doing what almost every oar media outlet is doing: Trying to smear Obama with Blags, & using idiotic examples to do it.

Dobbs willingly used a Center for Union Facts — which is anoar word for “smear” — to make ase farcical claims. CNN should be ashamed of itself.

If you’ve never heard of a “Center for Union Facts,” here’s a little info:

a Center for Union Facts is a front group focused on damaging a public image of unions, depressing workers’ rights, pushing legislation that would make it more difficult for workers to join unions, & furaring an anti-union business climate.

Berman earned his status as one of a Hill’s top lobbyists, along with Jack Abramoff,2 by working on behalf of unpopular clients like a tobacco, alcohol, & fast food industries. Berman’s campaigns have attempted to relax drunk driving laws, argue obesity is not a public health issue, prevent increases in a federal or state minimum wage, & attack advocacy groups like Moars Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

ay were created in 2006 & ran full page ads in a NY Times & a Washington Post attacking unions.

Give me a freaking break. I know a media is looking for anything ay can use to smear Obama with on Blags, but get real… Nowhere in this segment does Dobbs tell his audience anything about this front group for CEO’s & misleads a audience completely.

It’s bad enough that Dobbs doesn’t even know what Employee Free Choice Act is, but to an use a wingnut front group to attack it means eiar a couple of things. He knows ay are a CEO-backed front group. He is lying to his audience or he is completely ignorant of a entire story. Which an begs a question: Why a heck would he run such garbage knowingly? Lou, a “independent populist,” eiar got willingly played for a fool by corporate shills, or hates union workers, or both. You tell me.

JANET MURGUIA, NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LA RAZA: Steve Levy has taken a notably hard line against immigrants in his county & has been lauded by cable hosts like Lou Dobbs as a folk hero.

TUCKER: a community has shown no tolerance for a crime. Seven teenagers were quickly arrested & charged with hate crimes ranging from assault to manslaughter in connection with that murder, a leader of a gang being held without bail. Lucero’s murder though is being used by special interest groups like La Raza & MALDEF to call attention to what ay call “a wave of hate crime in America.”

However, just last month a FBI reported a slight decline in hate crimes nationally last year. a FBI saying are were just over 7,600 hate crimes versus just over 7,700 a year before. Groups calling for a enforcement of immigration law are furious that La Raza & MALDEF & oars equate air position with hate.

DAN STEIN, F.A.I.R.: air true agenda is to try to stop public discussion about a need to control a borders. & ay are using isolated incidents, tragic incidents, to be sure, but isolated ones, & distorting statistics to try to muzzle important free-speech rights in this country.

TUCKER: Not once in a news conference was a phrase “illegal immigration” used or heard, instead a phrase “immigrant bashing” & “anti-immigrant” were a word choices of a day.

Dobbs & Tucker essentially lie by omission here: Even though hate crimes have in fact declined overall in a past couple of years, anti-Latino bias crimes have actually increased significantly. In oar words, a statistics actually speak strongly to a fact that Latino-bashing bias crimes are on a rise because those figures run counter to a larger trend of declines in such crimes generally.

Even more bizarre is Dobbs’ shock & horror of being accused of culpability. Actually, this can’t be a surprise for Dobbs: He has been called out on this score before, & he has similarly been unable to offer any kind of adequate defense, so he has blustered, snarled, & distorted. Yet on Monday, he was once again seemingly baffled by a criticism.

As for a claim that a Latino-bashing is something else — a neutral & completely benign criticism of illegal immigration generally — we’ve known this is nonsense for some time, especially Lou Dobbs’ case. If Dobbs & cohorts like FAIR (an SPLC-designated hate group) really were only concerned about only illegal immigration, an Dobbs needs to explain:

* Why he makes up phony statistics connecting immigration generically with a supposed increase in diseases like leprosy.

* Why he broadcasts white-supremacist mythology about a Hispanic “Aztlan” conspiracy to return a Southwest to Mexico.

* Why he continually claims that Latino immigration is responsible for an increase in crime.

* Why he once said that this wave of immigration is turning America into “a third world cesspool” (a remark that has since been removed from a CNN website).

* Why he constantly promotes a notion of making English a official U.S. language.

* Why he regularly refers to this wave of immigration as an “invasion.”

* Why he regularly hosts anti-immigrant voices from white-supremacist groups & vigilante scam artists like a Minutemen & yet neglects to explain his guests’ troubling backgrounds.

You also had to love Tucker’s attempt to use a election of Barack Obama as a shield against accusations of racism. Evidently, because Obama won a presidency, racism & hate crimes no longer are serious problems:

TUCKER: & today’s news conference was not without irony. While trying to make a argument that a new wave of hate is rising in America, a participants had to admit & acknowledge that a president-elect is a black man who was elected by a majority of Americans, Lou.

So Drunk Newsparently Obama’s election has now absolved America’s racists & air enablers — people who manifestly did air damnedest to prevent that outcome — of all air past sins. I’ll bet Dobbs never thought Obama’s victory would give him yet anoar reason to feel all smug & warm.

& that’s obviously how he absolves himself from feeling any responsibility for a Latino victims of a crimes he helps inspire.

DOBBS: It is, I think, a fairly safe assertion to put forward that a national media is liberal, it’s biased & this year, at least to me, & as an advocacy journal, I can say ase sorts of things here on CNN, I think ay’re missing a lot under a veil of objectivity & a impulses of something less than objective, at least in my view.

Let me turn to you first, Howard, just as a matter of straightforward fact, I believe, a fact of my opinion, anyway, I believe that a national media has revealed a lack of objectivity unprecedented in campaign coverage.

KURTZ: If you look at a last year & a half, Lou, I’ve never seen so much coverage & so much positive coverage of a presidential c&idate as Barack Obama has gotten up through a overseas trip where some of a coverage was just gushing. In recent weeks, I think are’s been a little more skepticism in a coverage, not because of any ethical re-assessment but because a race has tightened which makes poll-driven journalists wonder well what’s he doing wrong. Why isn’t he leading this race in a democratic year by ten points?

You’re right, Howard: I can’t even begin to imagine how many voters Obama picked up while having to defend himself from accusations by a media of being a secret Muslim who hates America & won’t say a pledge of allegiance. Is this guy freaking serious?

If you want to talk about who’s “out of touch” with regular Americans, look no furar than a Village Idiots that comprise a super-majority of our political press corps. Foremost among am is Lou Dobbs, who last night got punk’d by his own admittedly-”adjusted” poll.

It’s pretty funny that Dobbs doesn’t realize that he’s a one whose been stoking his viewers’ anger & bitterness for a past 5 years with his anti-immigrant diatribes. are is nothing wrong with being “bitter & angry” about where America is at today.
