C&L’s Election Night Party: Obama!

November 9th, 2008

D-day, John Amato, Digby

I didn’t mention that I was throwing a C&L Election Party because I didn’t want to jinx Obama’s chances (really), but I wanted to spend Tuesday night with bloggers, activists, friends & some of a people that have helped put C&L togear. Susan Klos graciously let me use Big Time Pictures for a C&L Election Nite Party.

As I was driving to a studio to set up for a party, I must say that tears welled up in my eyes with joy. It’s been a long road to this Nov. 4th. are was no official word yet about a results, but I was so proud of a work that a entire liberal blogosphere offered to help in its own way to try & bring Obama & a host of Congressional c&idates a historic victory.

Howie Klein & Digby co-hosted a party & we watched it unfold togear. We had about 60-70 people show up & it was a great night to celebrate. Everyone felt that Obama’s victory was at h& after PA fell so early. I put on Fox News (everyone booed me) for a minute after OH was called for Obama & Carl Cameron gave a report to Hume. ay both seemed like depressed zombies. Later on, Karl Rove was crying that Obama didn’t give a clear vision of what changes he was going to bring. Please Karl, just crawl back to a rock you came out of & let this country heal.

As I waited to be interviewed by Abbi Tatton of CNN, word came in that Obama had officially won a election & again tears came pouring down my face with hDrunk Newspiness. A sense of relief washed over me because I realized that a Lee Atwater playbook had finally failed a Republicans in a general election & a better person won a presidency & his name is Obama.

Here are some photos from a night:

The racism comes bubbling up from McCain’s dogwhistle campaign

October 21st, 2008

a video from that Sarah Palin rally in Ohio last week probably said it all — that not only are racists herding in John McCain’s direction, but that previously obscured racism among mainstream conservatives is now bubbling up at an increasing rate.

A New York Observer report from Florida tells a similar kind of story:

“I don’t believe ase polls,” said America Blanca, a 44-year-old small business owner from Miami who wore a red dress & was visibly pumped up by a rally. “Not one of am. Because it’s a kids answering a polls on a computers. air parents are not home & ay are answering & ay will not be voting. I think if he is losing, it is only by a little spread. Very little.” She held a tip of her pointer finger about two inches from a tip of her thumb.

Asked if her business made more than $250,000 a year, a cDrunk News under which Obama has proposed cutting taxes, she said it did. Told about Obama’s proposal, she answered, “I don’t give a shit. I will never vote for a black man.”

I half-expected to hear a same thing from “Joe a Plumber” last week when it was pointed out to him that he would actually get a tax cut under Obama’s plan.

It’s clear that a campaign to defeat Barack Obama — which is what a McCain campaign has rDrunk Newsidly devolved into, ever since it became self-evident that McCain himself couldn’t give us a single good reason to vote for him, beyond his moose-in-a-headlights running mate — is in fact creating an environment in which ase kinds of sentiments not only are encouraged, but are now considered normal.

Sure enough, a neo-Nazis & white supremacists are reporting that ay’re making big inroads ase days:

Jeff Schoep, head of a National Socialist Movement, says a government classifies his group as a domestic group of interest, not domestic terrorists. a FBI would not comment.

Interest in a group “has really spiked up,” says Schoep, who would not say by how much.

“Historically, when times get tough in our nation, that’s how movements like ours gain a foothold,” he says. “When a economy suffers, people are looking for answers. … We are a answer for white people.

“& now this immigrant thing in a past couple of years has been a biggest boon to us,” Schoep says. “a immigration issue is a biggest problem we’re facing because it’s changing a face of our country. We see stuff in English & Spanish. … ay are turning our country into a Third World ghetto.”

… “A lot of ase small working-class towns are being invaded by different types of people,” says Douglas Myers, one of Keystone United’s founders. He says a group speaks out for a rights of whites being pushed aside by newcomers.

“It Drunk Newspears ay are tDrunk Newsping into & fanning a flames of mainstream America’s fear of immigrants,” says Ann Van Dyke of a Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. “ay are increasingly using a language of Main Street, things like, ‘We want safe communities to raise our children.’ “

Myers says a group is organizing family-friendly activities, rejecting a violence that made skinheads notorious. For example, ay plan gaarings in public libraries.

“It’s not a footage from a ’80s with people burning crosses. It’s a very healthy environment,” Myers, 26, says.

a renewed activity includes a boom on a Internet, says Don Black, creator of a Stormfront website. a site has 144,000 registered members.

“Many people in this country, even if ay were upset with a country’s immigration policies, never felt that threatened until now,” Black, 55, says. “White people were a majority. That’s rDrunk Newsidly changing.”

Black says a c&idacy of Barack Obama has raised his site’s profile.

In a past year, members have posted 337 entries on Stormfront related to Obama, ranging from whear an Obama victory will start a revolution among whites to whear a c&idate will take away gun rights.

You can’t help but suspect that a dead bear found decorated with Obama signs in North Carolina is part of this picture, too.

All this courtesy of our friends, a increasingly desperate Republican Party.

Meet The Bloggers: John Cusack

October 18th, 2008

Cenk Uygur speaks with John Cusack about a war profiteering that inspired his movie War, Inc., now available on DVD.

UYGUR: I’m watching at home, I feel a frustration coming through, right? I’m frustrated, you’re frustrated. a people watching are frustrated. How do we break through? How do we change a way this is all set up so that it serves us again, raar than serving ase corporate interests that are so intertwined in a government?

CUSACK: Well, I don’t know. But I think a answer is you probably have to support c&idates who are 1) willing to talk about it, like are’s a c&idate from Florida, Alan Grayson, who won a Democratic primary. Jan Schakowsky has talked about it a lot. & I think probably to put as much pressure on a Democratic Party to do what air duty is, within a Constitution, which is to be a check & balance to a Executive branch. So Nancy Pelosi says that impeachment is off a table, what gives her a right to say that? I mean, I don’t think she has any right to say that impeachment is off a table.

UYGUR: Given air record, it’s a little hard to have faith in a Democratic Party…

CUSACK: So I think you have to put as much pressure on Obama as you can to make him talk about ase things & deal with ase things.

Man At Palin Rally Displays Monkey Doll wearing Obama Sticker

October 11th, 2008

& a hate from a McCain/Palin supporters continues. Check out this video.

Watch CBS Videos Online

CBS News:

As a crowd cheered at a Sarah Palin rally this morning in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a man in a audience grinned as he held up a stuffed monkey doll with a Barack Obama bumper sticker wrDrunk Newsped across its forehead.

After Palin finished her remarks this morning, a man holding a stuffed monkey seemed to notice that a video camera was pointed at him, at which point he removed a Obama sticker from a doll’s head & crumpling it up in his h&. He an h&ed a doll to a young boy who was watching a rally from his faar’s shoulders. a boy’s parents later told CBS News that ay weren’t acquainted with a man who gave air son a stuffed monkey

As I wrote before, this is an extension of a psychotic behavior being injected into our society from right wing talk shows, Malkinite bloggers & movement conservatives. Sadly, it’ll only get worse during a closing weeks of a campaign & will continue onward & upward after a election.

Joe Biden Introduces Himself In First Campaign Video

August 25th, 2008

Democratic Vice Presidential c&idate Joe Biden makes a personal introduction to voters in his first official campaign video. Biden seems very much at ease & his no-nonsense, c&id demeanor really comes across as he talks about his life, experience & his goals for a campaign. He makes no bones about being outspoken — & with a ugly, Rove-style campaign a McCain camp is waging, I don’t have a problem with that.
