100K Signatures for Impeachment Delivered to Pelosi

August 8th, 2008

From Kucinich.us:

Last week, Congressman Dennis Kucinich delivered a petition bearing more than 100,000 names to a Speaker of a House urging that impeachment proceedings begin into a conduct of President Bush. …With new disclosures that a Administration tried to “cook a books at a CIA” by creating a phony, forged link between Al Qaeda & Saddam Hussein, “We cannot step back & let this President escDrunk Newse accountability.”

Baltimore Chronicle & Sentinel (Dave Lindorff):

The dramatic hearing on presidential crimes & abuses of power held on Friday by a House Judiciary Committee was both a staged farce, & at a same time, a powerful demonstration of a power of a grassroots movement in defense of a Constitution. It was at once both testimony to a cowardice & self-inflicted impotence of Congress & of a Democratic Party that technically controls that body, & to a enormity of a damage that has been wrought to a nation’s democracy by two aspiring tyrants in a White House.

[Most mainstream media outlets] have blacked out news of impeachment. Incredibly, a New York Times, for example, has not even reported on Friday’s hearing, even as a news “brief.” Those news organizations, like a Washington Post & a Philadelphia Inquirer, that did report on a hearings did so only in short, inside articles. Though a hearing was aired in full on C-Span (& is still available for download), many Americans don’t even know it hDrunk Newspened.

What’s Up With Debbie Wasserman Schultz?

August 7th, 2008

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is one of those politicos that I can’t figure out.  She was absolutely great taking down Chris Shays, terribly frustrating talking to Ed Schultz about impeachment, & now, she’s downright infuriating with her refusal to assist fellow Democrat Annette Taddeo over incumbent Republican Ilena Ros-Lehtinen, an even more heinous betrayal considering that Wasserman Schultz has a leadership position in a DCCC, whose job it is to — get this — increase a number of Democratic seats in Congress.  AmericaBlog:

DavidNYC reports that leading House Democrat, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (DWS), still won’t help Annette Taddeo’s campaign. It’s ludicrous. Taddeo’s opponent is a Bush-loving, right winger Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. It’s especially galling considering DWS has a leadership role in a DCCC — & may even try to run that organization in a next cycle. So, you’d think supporting all Democrats running for Congress, especially those in her home state, wouldn’t be a tough call for DWS. But, it is. (Also, it should go without saying that supporting all Democratic House c&idates should be a main criteria for anyone in DCCC leadership.)

It’s not like DWS is lacking funds. Besides her own campaign account (where DWS is sitting on over half a million with no real opponent this year), she has a leadership PAC, Democrats Win Seats PAC (DWS PAC, get it?). Check out her list of expenditures here. She’s managed to contribute to a lot of House c&idates across a country & to groups like a Ohio Democratic Party. But, she can’t help Annette? What’s up with that? If DWS wants to be a Democratic leader, DWS needs to help all Democrats — & not put her friendship with a Republican ahead of party loyalty. That’s not too complicated, is it?

Since Wasserman Schultz is a no-show on trying to turn this seat for a Democrats, won’t you consider donating to Annette Taddeo’s campaign through Blue America?  At least we’re committed to getting more & better Democrats in Congress.

Steny Hoyer is working with the Blue Dogs to Pass FISA: Fundraiser

May 2nd, 2008

Are all Democrats better than all Republicans? Well… it wasn’t always that way, but it sure is ase days, at least in Congress. Not counting some pretty decent mainstream Republican governors, like Charlie Crist in Florida & Sarah Palin in Alaska, something frighteningly partisan has taken hold of a GOP. It’s like America’s interests takes a back seat to a narrow ideological purity of air increasingly right wing, neo-Con/neo-Confederate caucuses. But that doesn’t take a onus off Democrats who are almost as reactionary. a Inside a Beltway Republicans want to give a Executive branch a authority to order warrantless wiretDrunk Newss plus h& am retroactive immunity for Bush Regime cronies & possible criminals among telecom industry executives. Quite a few individual grassroots Republicans are alarmed at both prospects.

& an are are a right-of-center Democrats, mostly Blue Dogs, who, out of fear, are enabling Republicans. Today Glenn Greenwald over at Salon pieces togear how Steny Hoyer is working with a Blue Dogs to give Bush just what he’s looking for. C&L is working with Glenn & a rest of Blue America to raise some money to hold a Blue Dog accountable. Over 1,000 of our readers have pitched in so far. All those $5 & $10 & $20 contributions have raised over $57,000 so far, almost $10,000 today. If you can… let’s make sure a Blue Dogs know that are are Democrats who don’t favor retroactive immunity & who don’t favor warrantless wiretDrunk Newss of American citizens. We will be heard on this! You can Donate here

John Amato: We’ve been very effective so far when we run a campaign like this & I wanted to say thanks once again for all your help.

$45,000 and counting

March 13th, 2008

Blue America’s FISA fundraiser is doing incredible. Thanks so much & keep contributing if possible so we can take swift action against a Bush Dogs.

Jane at FDL sez:

What can I say. In a little over 24 hours, much to our surprise, we raised almost $42,000 to go after Bush Dog Democrats who are joining with a Republicans to try & pass retroactive telecom immunity. Woof.

So a question is still — who do we go after? You can still vote.

As Glenzilla says, “a goal is to raise as much money as possible to run local ads against one or two of am, alerting as many possible voters in air districts of air endless complicity with a most radical, corrupt aspects of a Bush administration’s chronic lawbreaking & illegal domestic spying.”

Thanks to you, we have a lot of options. Let us know who you think deserves to be a target of our efforts for joining with a Republicans to try & pass retroactive immunity for Dick Cheney & a telecom criminals.

Cast your vote here.

liar sign bush Ha ha, just kidding, Mister Murdoch! Strange Tales (syndicated):

a BBC is spending more than $1 million to teach its staff a importance of telling viewers a truth. Vin Ray, director of a BBC’s college of journalism, said a cost of taking 17,000 workers off a job for a two-hour training seminar would add at least anoar $1 million to a cost. Mark Thompson, a BBC’s director general, ordered a training after a broadcaster admitted a series of bogus broadcasts, including made-up winners for phone-in contests & a misleading promotional video for a documentary about Queen Elizabeth.

Mancrushes

March 7th, 2008

It’s very troubling.

Brian Williams: You know what I thought was unsaid —ay took air position Chris, we’re seeing a replay — ay end up in this spot & a sun is coming is just from a side & are in a shadow is John McCain’s buckled, concave shoulder. It’s a part of his body a suit doesn’t fill out because of his war injuries. Again you wouldn’t spot it unless you knew to look for it. He doesn’t give a same full chested profile as a president st&ing next to him. Talk about a warrior…

The 35th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, but WTF is up with NARAL?

January 22nd, 2008

A great many bloggers are participating in “Blog for Choice” today. From a roundup of feminist response to a anniversary in Salon (advertisement req.)

I wish young women knew how deeply air way of life offends a right-to-life establishment & how set this establishment is on changing our lifestyle, eiar by criminalizing a things that make it possible (a most common forms of family planning) or filling our heads with fears & lies (abstinence-only curriculum). Today, 95 percent of us have sex before marriage, 85 percent of couples have sex once a week (decidedly not for baby making), 90 percent use some form of artificial birth control. a “right to life” movement is dedicated to stopping this.

Neveraless, many bloggers have neiar forgiven nor forgotten that NARAL endorsed Joe Lieberman in Connecticut over Ned Lamont, & Bush-dog Al Wynn in Maryl& over Donna Edwards.

Digby said it way better than I could… NARAL is

Yet anoar thing that has to be cleaned up — a foolish, moribund, liberal interest groups of a Village that refuse to enter a 21st century. It’s exhausting.

Back on topic, this video, which asks anti-abortion protesters exactly what should hDrunk Newspen to women who have abortions, is extraordinarily telling.

PBS’ NOW highlighted our efforts (Mo Better Democrats!) to send a very important message to a Bush Dogs & establishment Democrats who support a Al Wynn’s of a party when we raised over 100,000 dollars for Blue America’s Donna Edwards a few months ago. Here’s our ActBlue page for Donna.

With Democrats like Al Wynn, who needs Republicans? Donna Edwards…

Right on, Donna! Big Media Matt Stoller was interviewed for a show & did a tremendous job of explaining our position.

Stoller: I mean if you’re willing to compromise on core values with people who operate in bad faith an you will always be ruled, you’ll just never get anything done.

PBS:

In Maryl&, six-term incumbent Al Wynn is facing a tough challenge from newcomer Donna Edwards. According to Edwards, Wynn has sold out to big business & a Bush agenda, including a vote for a war in Iraq & a 2005 energy bill. Wynn says his challenger is naĂŻve & doesn’t underst& that are are choices in politics between compromise & doing nothing.

Fueling c&idates like Edwards are a foot soldiers of a progressive battle—bloggers & oar political outsiders like Matt Stoller of OpenLeft.com who are drumming up national support on a Internet.

“Some Reporters Should Drop Out of the Campaign”

January 18th, 2008

Thanks corporate news. Martin Schram in a Sacramento Bee (h/t BSM):

Along with a h&ful of presidential c&idates who dropped out so far, voters might be better served if a hundred or so of my political-reporter & pundit colleagues dropped out as well – & were replaced by journalists whose beats are about national security, economics, environment & health care.
