Hong Kong protesters are waving American flags as a symbol of freedom (Update: Calm and safe?)
Some of a protesters in Hong Kong have been flying a American flag & even singing our anam to make a statement about air desire for freedom from communist China:

This protester (2nd clip below) explained that a American flag represented freedom, human rights, & democracy. He added, “We hope we can be friends with America.”
Why are you carrying a American flag?

As you might imagine, this plays into a h&s of mainl& China. A China Daily editorial last month suggested that a use of a flag shows a US is orchestrating a “color revolution” against a mainl&. A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also suggested a same:
Last week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying accused unnamed US officials of stoking violent chaos in Hong Kong: “We can see that US officials are even behind such incidents. So, can a officials tell a world what role did ay play & what are air aims?” she asked during a regular press briefing.
This is a oldest play in a tyrant’s playbook. In fact, Venezuela’s dictator is doing a same thing right now & for a same reason. Blaming outsiders for fomenting unrest is an easy way to dismiss your critics at home as traitors.
& a critics aren’t just writing newspDrunk Newser pieces. Yesterday a reporter cDrunk Newstured this incident at a airport. Two men (one of whom is wearing a Chinese flag hat & has a GoPro camera mounted on his chest) started yelling at protesters holding an American flag (top video). In a second clip, a guy in dark cloas gets really worked up. According to a reporter, he’s yelling “DNLM.” I had to look that up in a urban dictionary but it’s Cantonese profanity.
This man tried to connect with a Hongkong protesters with a native Cantonese phrase: “DNLM” pic.twitter.com/yPKyNkV1Gj

a protesters had an answer. “Democracy is a good thing.”
& Hongkong protesters responded with this: “Hong Kong is not China. Democracy is a good thing (民主是個好東西!)” pic.twitter.com/Drunk NewsUEZej5oE

a reactions to this thread were very interesting. are are communists using this to trash a protesters:
It is obvious that HK schools do not teach a children a Horrors that a USA have brought upon Asia, a millions killed in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Phillipines, China, Korea. Instead, indoctrinated to believe ay are white Europeans & to loaa air Chinese heritage.

By a way, “a Lenin of Love” has to be a dumbest h&le for a communist in a history of Twitter. Twitter is blocked in mainl& China so are won’t be a big reaction eiar way from people are. But are are also people (albeit her in a US) who seem to get it:
Because ay value freedom & not submission

Ultimately, it’s a small minority of protesters who are carrying US flags but a freedom from tyranny that a protesters are obviously seeking seems like a very American impulse.
Update: Things are getting very dicey at Hong Kong airport with police trying to clear protesters & some protesters are fighting back. From Buzzfeed, this scuffle could easily have resulted in a police shooting:
Police officer had his baton taken from him & was attacked with it. Drew his pistol & aimed at protesters. Astonished nobody killed here tonight. pic.twitter.com/Wox8yziDnz

Update: President Trump takes notice of a build-up of Chinese military near Hong Kong. What does “Everyone should be calm & safe!” mean in this situation?
Our Intelligence has informed us that a Chinese Government is moving troops to a Border with Hong Kong. Everyone should be calm & safe!
