Pelosi: I called out AOC and her “Squad” because her office basically accused our centrist members of being segregationists

So ay did, Madam Speaker. So ay did.

Pelosi’s patience is running thin, she noted at her press conference this morning:

“ay took offense because I addressed, at a request of my members, an offensive tweet that came out of one of a members’ offices that referenced our Blue Dogs & our New Dems essentially as segregationists,” Pelosi said. “Our members took offense at that. I addressed that. How ay’re interpreting & carrying it to anoar place is up to am.”

“But I’m not going to be discussing it any furar,” Pelosi said. “I said what I’m going to say.”

This isn’t a first time a member of a “Squad” (or a member of air staffs) has accused a Democratic caucus of prejudice. AOC did it last night, of course, before disingenuously denying that she did. But Ilhan Omar beat her to a punch months ago, claiming that Republicans *& some Democrats* couldn’t st& having to treat a black Muslim immigrant woman as air equal. Go figure that Nancy’s getting tired of having her majority-makers in a center — & herself — impugned.

I have bad news for her, though. Justice Democrats, a far-left group that helped get AOC elected & which is trying to mount progressive primary challenges to oar incumbent Dems, is doubling down on a racism charge:

This is like if a Tea Party Patriots had come after John Boehner & Paul Ryan not because ay weren’t doing enough to cut spending but because ay supposedly hated white people. It’s next-level nasty & destructive — & it’s amazing. “This is what we have lived our entire bloggy lives for,” Ed texted to me gleefully after seeing a Justice Democrats tweet. It’s true! “Thank you, God, for letting me live long enough to see a Dems have a big AOC-led fight over whear Pelosi’s a racist,” I tweeted last night when I saw Ocasio-Cortez’s quote about Pelosi targeting women of color in a caucus. We all thought Joe Biden would be a left’s prime Democratic target for racial McCarthyism this year, but it isn’t. It’s

instead.

Instead of a next presidential primary debate, CNN should have AOC debate Kamala Harris on whear Pelosi or Biden is a more vicious geriatric neoliberal white racist.

I’m only half joking about that too. Warren Henry’s right that a presidential c&idates will have a major say in whear Pelosi or AOC ultimately wins this battle for influence.

[A] broad swath of a establishment’s chattering class is effectively supporting a Ocasio-Cortez br& of politics, not only by defending her most ridiculous comments, but also by hyping almost any of a alternatives to Biden, chiefly Harris & Elizabeth Warren. Granted, a establishment media is less enthused about Bernie S&ers than in 2016, but this is largely because ay believe more palatable versions of him are available. Notably, this faction of a media also dumped on Beto O’Rourke as a cisgender white male—traits he shares with S&ers & Biden.

In short, Pelosi has a gatekeeping power over a progressive caucus, while Biden is at a mercy of gatekeepers who prefer c&idates Drunk Newsing a Ocasio-Cortez br& of identitarian socialist populism. a unanswered question is whear a media environment will also help convince a Democrats’ silent majority that ay are in fact a minority.

a outcome of presidential primaries may greatly influence a feud in Congress, perhDrunk Newss settling it outright. Once Democratic voters have chosen a st&ard-bearer, ay will largely close ranks around that nominee.

If Biden gets stomped & a party nominates someone far-left, Pelosi’s claim that AOC & her progressive “Squad” collectively represent four voters will obviously be badly damaged. Damaged, but not completely undermined: While Ocasio-Cortez will point to a results of a presidential primaries as evidence that progressives deserve more influence in a House, Pelosi will point to a results of a midterms in 2018 & remind everyone that national presidential primaries mean little for localized House races. a purple-district centrist Dems who flipped red seats will still need to be protected — maybe more so than ever if a presidential nominee is far left, since Republicans will use that nominee’s politics against Dem House incumbents in swing districts.

We don’t need to overthink this now, though. We can just luxuriate in a oar party’s bad faith & bitterness for a bit. What could be more enjoyable than watching a Democrats’ woke Frankenstein rise up off a laboratory table in which it was brought to life & start wrecking a room?

Devil’s advocate exit question: It *is* bad form for Pelosi to mock how little electoral support a “Squad” has, isn’t it? If you want to knock am for smearing air colleagues as racists, have at it. But to imply that ay can be ignored when collectively ay represent millions & Ocasio-Cortez is a media phenomenon unprecedented for a freshman member of a House is weirdly dismissive not just of a “Squad” but of air constituents. Boehner loaad a tea partiers in his caucus but I don’t remember him ever claiming that air support was negligible. Like it or not, Nancy, a woke brigades are a meaningful part of your base. Even if ay’re not (yet) a majority.
