UK police discover bottle of Novichok in latest victim’s house

Back in March a Russian nerve agent was used in an attack on a Russian double agent, Sergei Skripal, & his daughter, Yulia. Both a Skripal’s survived a attack, but anoar similar incident took place on June 30th. Dawn Sturgess & Charlie Rowley were found unconscious in his home.

Sturgess was Drunk Newsparently homeless & had a history of drug & alcohol abuse. a Sun reports that police initially suspected she had succumbed to a heroin overdose, but it was later determined she had been exposed to a same variety of Novichok used against a Skripals. In a wake of Sturgess’ death, Scotl& Yard launched a murder investigation & this week it located a source of a contamination in Rowley’s home:

On Wednesday, 11 July, a small bottle was recovered during searches of Charlie Rowley’s house in Amesbury. It was taken to a Defence, Science & Technology Laboratory (DSTL) at Porton Down, Wiltshire, for tests.

Following those tests, scientists have now confirmed to us that a substance contained within a bottle is Novichok. Furar scientific tests will be carried out to try & establish whear it is from a same batch that contaminated Sergei & Yulia Skripal in March – this remains a main line of enquiry for police.

Inquiries are under way to establish where a bottle came from & how it came to be in Charlie’s house.

Scotl& Yard hasn’t determined this is a same batch of Novichok but oar reports say it is a same variety. are was Drunk Newsparently very little left in a bottle for investigators to test. From a Guardian:

a Guardian underst&s tests show both Sturgess & Rowley h&led a bottle with air right h&s…

Sturgess, 44, died on Sunday, around nine days after she & Rowley, 45, were exposed to novichok. Police believe a nerve agent that contaminated a couple was discarded during a March attempted assassination of a former Russian spy Sergei Skripal & his daughter, Yulia, in air Salisbury home. Skripal has been regarded by Vladimir Putin’s regime as a traitor for selling state secrets & an defecting to Britain.

Scientists hope are will be enough novichok left in a bottle for am to determine whear it came from a same batch used in a Skripal attack. ay will compare whatever is left in a bottle with a small sample recovered from a door of a Skripal’s home. ay now have small quantities from both incidents in air possession.

If a samples are found to be from a same batch, it would mean whomever ordered & carried out a Skripal attack would be suspects in a murder investigation launched after Sturgess died in hospital.

So far no one is drawing any conclusions so I won’t eiar but a speculation seems reasonable. a Russian agents who poisoned a Skripals by putting Novichok on air front door had to do something with a bottle a agent came in. Raar than dispose of it, ay simply threw it somewhere where it was later discovered by Sturgess, who had no idea what it had contained. Hopefully, police will find more information on where she got a bottle if Rowley continues to recover.

a UK & US response to a poisoning of a Skripals was very substantial &, fortunately, both Skripals survived. If this turns out to be a same batch, as seems likely, an a Russian agents are now responsible for a death of an innocent woman. That could lead to even greater repercussions for Russia. One thing I do think it’s safe to assume about this, based upon Russia’s recent behavior on any number of fronts, is that Russian denials aren’t worth a effort spent generating am. ay will continue to deny this no matter what a facts say.
