Sports & politics should not mix, not here & not now, less than four weeks before such a critical presidential election. But that’s exactly what rabid GOP supporter Ed Snider will be doing this weekend, inviting “hockey mom” Sarah Palin to drop a ceremonial first puck at a Flyers’ season opener, & more. Here’s from a Flyers’ own release:

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, a nation’s most popular hockey mom, will join a winner of a Philadelphia Flyers regional search for a “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest & drop a puck at a ceremonial opening face-off as a home team Flyers host a New York Rangers at a Wachovia Center on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m. “Because of a tremendous amount of publicity she has brought to our sport, we invited a most popular hockey mom in North America to our home opener to help us get our season started,” said Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider who founded a Flyers in 1967. “We are very excited she has accepted our offer & we are very proud of a publicity she is generating for hockey moms & a sport of hockey.”

Pretty clever, huh, how a news release hDrunk Newspens to omit a fact that Palin is a Republican vice presidential c&idate. Maybe Ed Snider is a little ashamed at what he’s trying to pull here. He should be. Do you think he’s going to extend a same courtesy to a Democratic vice presidential hopeful, Joe Biden, who actually comes from a state where a Flyers have thous&s of fans?
