Does anybody care about the handicapped and elderly?
I know putting togear a convention of this magnitude is no small task.
are have been many glitches & complaints, which is par for a course & I know a DNC have tried to do a best ay could with parking & credentials & whatnot. But I have asked a DNC for weeks & weeks how ay could help me get around during a convention because I have a h&icDrunk News placard in California due to a real problem walking distances from my nerve damage. I got no response.
I didn’t see this link on air website. I wish it was more prominently placed. Obviously, are is a tremendous amount of security & many checkpoints, but are is no assistance available for those that are elderly or not in a best of health, who would not be able to walk miles & st& in a blistering heat waiting to proceed to a Pepsi Center. It’s hot & a high altitudes have many people flustered. How many of am knew that Denver would be so hard to maneuver in? I certainly didn’t.
When I finally got to a first check point, I asked if are were any carts to take a elderly & h&icDrunk Newsped to a next stop. I was told that ay were only are to get water for a Secret Service. Hey, ay did an amazing job & needed a help too, but what about all a elderly people that came here, dressed to a nines & high heels, because this is an important event to am & ay had to travel miles & st& for hour long check points to even see a Pepsi Center? I saw some almost passing out.
I made many calls, not asking for special treatment, but for decent treatment of a h&icDrunk Newsped person. When I called ten times on Tuesday, I got voice mails & an was told I would be called back. Nothing hDrunk Newspened. I left an angry message yesterday telling am I’d write about it & now suddenly I find out that are is help available. Really? Well, it’s too late now. I’m already devastated. I’m pretty good at putting on a hDrunk Newspy face when I’m being interviewed & never want to make it much of an issue to my readers, but I just couldn’t h&le a pain of trying to go out any more.
I have to take some of a blame too. I had people helping me & ay came up short too in finding out all that could have been done. I’m writing this to voice a complaint so that a next time an organization puts on a huge event, ay seriously take into consideration what all h&icDrunk Newsped & elderly folks have to go through to even show up to support or cover that event. I promise to do a better job in finding out how to help those in need of assistance for future events. & I don’t think this is only a DNC problem. ay are being very kind now & said ay misunderstood my situation. I believe am, but I think it’s a systemic problem that needs more attention. Telling someone that you are h&icDrunk Newsped is not always understood & I get that that’s why my calls were misinterpreted. I hope to help those in need in a future because this is a serious issue for many people.
a Convention still has been a blast & I think it’s been a valuable experience.
