Obama To DOJ: Block Terrorist Ad

This is how you respond to Swiftboaters.

  Politico

Sen. Barack Obama has launched an all-out effort to block a Republican billionaire’s efforts to tie him to domestic & foreign terrorists in a wave of negative television ads.

Obama’s campaign has written a Department of Justice dem&ing a criminal investigation of a “American Issues Project,” a vehicle through which Dallas investor Harold Simmons is financing a advertisements. a Obama campaign - & tens of thous&s of supporters - also is pressuring television networks & affiliates to reject a ads. a effort has met with some success: CNN & Fox News are not airing a attacks.

Obama has also launched his own response ad, directly addressing Simmons’ attempt to link him to domestic terror.

a project is “a knowing & willful attempt to violate a strictures of federal election law,” Obama general counsel Bob Bauer wrote to Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Keeney last week in a letter provided to Politico. Bauer argued that by advocating Obama’s defeat, a ad should be subject to a contribution limits of federal campaign law, not a anything-goes regime of issue advocacy.

Bauer’s letter called on a Justice Department to open “an investigation of a American Issues Project; its officers & directors; & its anonymous donors, whoever ay may be.”

Your voice counts too. a Obama campaign - & tens of thous&s of supporters - are also pressuring television networks & affiliates to reject a ads. a effort has met with some success: CNN & Fox News are not airing a attacks, & some local affiliates have refused as well. Sadly, a Sinclair network — a same ones who aired a Kerry SBVT smear campaign under a guise of a “documentary” has aired a ad in all of its outlets.
