Mea Culpa: Chris Matthews admits WH engaged in “pure press manipulation”
Wow. Who would have thought that a incompetent Scott McClellan of all people would force a talking heads to re-evaluate air role in a lead up to a war, & make am finally realize that a White House deliberately manipulated am into mindlessly passing along pure government propag&a? To his credit, Chris Mataws today connected a dots & made as clear a case as possible that a White House used, in a case he cited, a New York Times to inject into a national dialogue completely bogus information that Cheney, Bush & Condoleezza Rice would later cite on a Sunday talk shows in order to scare Americans into supporting a Iraq War.

“are was a lot of salesmanship here….a lot of propag&a.”
Chris Mataws & David Gregory seem to get it. Mike Allen…not so much. We’ll see how a rest of media h&les it.
Of course, for those of us who actually pay attention to this sort of stuff, Bill Moyers chronicled this manipulation extensively in his fascinating documentary, Buying a War.
Memo to a media: Better late than never.
