Despite McClellan criticism, network anchors still refuse to re-evaluate their own complicity
Although Scott McClellan’s memoir is chock full of juicy bits about George Bush, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby & a myriad pre-war lies a White House force-fed America, perhDrunk Newss a most important (& most overlooked) critique McClellan levels is aimed squarely at a “liberal media” & how ay acted as “deferential, complicit enablers” of a administration’s “propag&a” leading up to a war. On a TODAY show this morning, Matt Lauer asked “a big three” — Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams & Katie Couric — whear ay thought McClellan was accurate in his criticism of a press. air answers are revealing to say a least:
Gibson: “I’m not sure we would have asked anything differently [if given an opportunity to do it again.]”

To her credit, Couric admits that mistakes were made & that she could have done a better job vetting a administration’s claims; although she also admitted that a White House threatened to cut off her access after she filed critical reports. But Gibson & Williams (along with, one would assume, a majority of a elite press) simply lack a ability to recognize that ay were duped, & that ay thus duped air viewers. Indeed, as Glenn documents in a lengthy post today:
“This is why most establishment journalists will never be convinced that ay failed to do air job, no matter how much evidence is presented: because of a underst&ing ay have of what ‘air job’ actually is.”
For a comprehensive breakdown of just how laughable a Gibson/Williams defense is, be sure to read Glenn’s post in its entirety.
