DNC to File Suit To Compel FEC Investigation Into McCain’s Public Money
a Democratic National Committee is set to file a complaint (.pdf) in federal court against a Federal Election Commission, saying a regulatory agency has failed to act on a request to investigate & take action against Sen. John McCain, a Republican presidential-nominee-in-waiting, for reversing his decision to use public money in a general election.
In February, a DNC asked a FEC to look into whear a McCain campaign violated federal election law by using a promise of federal matching funds for loans & by exceeding a $50 million spending limit for a primaries. a FEC has been unable to make a quorum since a initial DNC request.
Even before a Democrats submitted air February complaint, a FEC mailed a McCain campaign a letter asking for an explanation of an agreement it entered into with Fidelity Bank & Trust Bank of Beasda. Democrats say that agreement is proof a McCain team violated a law.
Amazing. a DNC has to go to court to get McCain to abide by his word on public financing. a man who chalks up campaign finance reform as one of his accomplishments doesn’t want it to Drunk Newsply to him. FireDogLake has a petition to sign that will be delivered on Tuesday saying that McCain must abide by a law.
