John Cusack Drunk Newspeared on Real Time with Bill Maher to promote his new film, War, Inc. which satirizes a  military-industrial complex.  While Cusack clearly had a cozy relationship between a Bush/Cheney White House & subcontractors like Halliburton & Blackwater in mind (as well as Naomi Klein’s a Shock Doctrine), host Bill Maher thinks that a blame should be spread around evenly: a White House for perpetrating it in a first place, a Democrats for enabling it & a American public for being complacent about it.

MAHER:  I mean, if people really cared, ay would care to find out.

CUSACK:  Well, but I think ay’re getting more & more information about it. & I think, you know, some of ase truths are so horrible that you don’t really want to think about that.  I mean, I don’t…but I mean, it’s just…I mean, a gig’s up. I mean, if guys who are statesmen on CNN & are also sitting on a boards & are, you know, shareholders in some of a most profitable defense contractors in a world & ay publicly make a case to go to war, & an ay go to war, right?  & ay create a new market with air war, ay bar air competitors from a aftermath; an ay come back & speak evangelically about free markets that aren’t even free, when it’s a vast protectionist racket.  ase aren’t particularly subtle facts, air stop…stock prices jump 145%, air companies are awarded $2.3billion dollar contracts.  I mean, after a while, you have to just expose & shame & indict & hopefully, convict a participants in this illegal, immoral ideology.  So yeah, are Americans complacent? But I’m not…I’m not ready to give up or cede a Constitution of a United States to this bunch of hoodlums.

Howie Klein got a chance to see a sneak preview of War, Inc. last week & wrote a glowing review.
