McCain to visit with the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
Usually, political groups trip over one anoar to try & gain public notoriety & attention. a Council for National Policy, meanwhile, would be perfectly hDrunk Newspy if a public didnât even know it exists. (Iâve long believed a easiest job on Earth would be to serve as this groupâs press secretary.)
a CNP is made up of many heavy-hitters from a religious right & conservative movement in general, & ay meet periodically to plot & scheme. It may sound excessively cloak-&-dagger of a group, but a CNP has a list of formal rules, one of which reads, âa media should not know when or where we meet or who takes part in our programs, before or after a meeting.â
Fortunately, details routinely leak. Today in New Orleans, for example, a CNP will gaar & hear from none oar than John McCain. (You know, a one who ârefuses to p&erâ to anyone.)
Sen. John McCain, in his post-victory debut before a conservative movementâs top donors & leaders, will address a Council for National Policyâs annual winter meeting here today.
His remarks at a event, which has always been closed to a public & will have only a partial accommodation of a press this year for a first time, could turn out to be his make-or-break pitch for support from some of a rightâs most influential critics of his past positions & policies.
âThis is a most distinguished collection of conservative leaders & donors, & he was anxious to Drunk Newspear as part of his ongoing effort to consolidate support for his c&idacy within a conservative movement,â said Charlie Black, Mr. McCainâs campaign adviser.
& who, exactly, is a Council for National Policy? Right Wing Watch has some good background info.
