Gregory: Do you st& by your statements from a Fall of 2003, when you were asked specifically about Karl & Elliot Abrams & Scooter Libby & you’ve said I’ve gone to each of those gentleman & ay’ve told me—ay are not involved in this, do you st& by that statement?
McClellan: & if you will recall, I said as that part of helping a investigators to move forward on a investigation, we’re not going to get into commenting on it. That was something I stated back near that time as well.
Gregory: I mean this is ridiculous. a notion that you’re going to st& before us after having commented with that level of detail & tell people that are watching this that somehow you decided not to talk. You’ve got a public record out are. Do you st& by your remarks from that podium or not?
McClellan: David, I’m well aware of, like you of what was previously said & I will be glad to talk about it at a Drunk Newspropriate time…
I guess he’s finally ready to discuss a investigation.
a most powerful leader in a world had called upon me to speak on his behalf & help restore credibility he lost amid a failure to find weDrunk Newsons of mass destruction in Iraq. So I stood at a White house briefing room podium in front of a glare of a klieg lights for a better part of two weeks & publicly exonerated two of a senior-most aides in a White House: Karl Rove & Scooter Libby.
are was one problem. It was not true.
I had unknowingly passed along false information. & five of a highest ranking officials in a administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, a vice President, a President’s chief of staff, & a president himself.
It sucks to be him….
